Havemeyer Horse Genome Workshop in Kentucky

In August, I attended the Havemeyer Horse Genome Workshop in Lexington, Kentucky. It was great to present my research on inbreeding depression, hear about advances in horse genomics, and meet old and new friends and colleagues.

I feel we have made huge progress in pangenome and genome annotation work over the last two years. I hope the next workshop will have a stronger focus on population genetics.

Visiting Lexington, Kentucky—the horse capital of the world—had been a dream of mine since I started working at the racetrack at 20. Meeting a horse celebrity like Not This Time in person was an awe-inspiring experience.
