Postdoc Research Slam 2026

A three-minute challenge to turn horse genomics and inbreeding into a clear story for a broad audience.

In February, I had the opportunity to present my research at the University of Calgary’s Postdoc Research Slam. My talk, Harnessing horse genomes to understand the hidden costs of mating with relatives, challenged me to communicate my work clearly and engagingly to a broad audience in just three minutes.

Public speaking does not come easily to me, so stepping onto that stage was a very real step outside my comfort zone. I was scared—but I am very glad I did it. The experience taught me a great deal, especially through the coaching sessions, which helped me transform a complex research topic into a focused and accessible story.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, and to every finalist who took on the challenge.
